dana jacobson is with cbs sports and paul callan is our legal contributor. you were all critical last night. you didn't feel satisfied. let me ask you, did you feel that -- did he win you another tonight? >> no. and i said earlier there's probably no way he could have won me over. maybe i saw a little more human side when his kids were mentioned. he was -- oprah said do you owe people an apology and he listed the people he owes an apology to, and he didn't do it last night when he had a chance. he didn't do it tonight when he had a chance. he could have done that publicly the way he humiliated them publicly. he didn't win me over. >> he did have a moment where he cried talking about his kids tonight, that there was emotion. but when he answered all of the other questions, david, did you feel better? >> well, i think people would have wanted to see the crying when he was talking about somebody else who he damaged. i don't think it's a surprise that he would be sad about his own loss or the harm in his own life, but he didn't have that sort of same kind of emo

dana jacobson has interviewed lance armstrong, good to see body of you. let me start by asking each of you, anyone who wasn't watching you last night, you watched the first part of the interview. you were both -- you were not satisfied. i'm putting it nicely. you didn't think he did a good job. >> he wasn't contrite at all. he didn't -- he may have been trying to say i'm sorry. he didn't even come close to it in the way he acted and the way he acted toward people that he hurt. i don't know how he makes up for it tonight. i don't know how that's possible -- >> you don't think he could say something -- he's talking about his wife, his children -- >> i think he could have cried and nobody would have -- i shouldn't say nobody. most people would not have believed him. i think i said at the end of last night, what's so difficult, it was probably too soon. i don't know if he could say anything where he could get the majority of people on his side at this point because he lied for so long about this and he went after people. he didn't just lie, he went after anyb

i want to go back here to dana and david who are with me. obviously, very excited to talk to him because $12.5 million basically had to bet that he would not win and then when he won would actually have to pay him out for that money. this is something that is a big part of the story, though. that he admitted that day in the day when he lost the nike contract, it was like the world fell apart. this guy might not have any money. >> well, and everybody is coming after him. and he were talking in the break. it's not just money. you look at the livestrong organization. look at all the people that bought into this idea and then he hid behind that organization a lot of times. look at the good i'm doing. i'm out there. i'm out front. i automatic it's a good cause. and, of course it is. but now these other things that you are doing with the publicity, it's not so good for lance armstrong. it's an interesting sort of idea of, who else comes out after him, even for them if it's not for money. for them it's simply the idea of giving a black eye to the o

dana can tell you better than i but she's busy right now, obviously. the problem in the senate is that there are a lot of democrat from republican leaning so-called red states that basically have to walk the plank to take that vote because they have so many sportsmen, hunters who use it for legitimate purposes who don't like the idea of a government trying to take their guns away. and then move over to house of representatives, it's controlled by republicans, unlike 1994 when the house was controlled by democrats and even then the gun ban passed on a very close vote. so this proposal, frankly, has a very tough road to hoe and it may be that if they put something out there and try to encourage people who support gun rights to go ahead and vote for it, they will end up with something that they can sell politically to the country even though it might not be able to get to the congress. people say go after the ammunition or go after stopping people who are mentally ill from getting guns, do some things that are a little bit easier to get agreement on. >> a

senior congressional correspondent dana bash joins us now. you got a rare look at a room that almost nobody has seen. it's kind of need we have one of those. >> it's the old senate chamber in the capitol. we mentioned at the beginning of the show that there are 1600 people on this platform, 9 of them are members of the supreme court, and one of the rituals is they get together and walk over as one. it's the one of the few times that all three branchs of government are together in one place. >> reporter: inside a historic room on the first floor of the capitol an inauguration day tradition not talked about much. so this room is going to be a very important staging point for very important nine people. >> yes. the supreme court will come in here, the justices. >> reporter: the senate curator gave us behind the scenes access to this old supreme court chamber where the supreme court met in the 1800s. now justices use it to get dressed for the inauguration. >> they will actually change into their robes here. we have a bathroom that they're able to

there will be more of these. >> dana bash joins me now. you have been talking to red state democrats including some with gun and nra support in the past. have any told you they'll support this legislation? >> not one, anderson. the dynamic is there are more than half a dozen democrats from the red states up for re-election next year, and they really feel that this is something they don't want to touch with a ten-foot pole. more broadly, there are about a dozen conservative democrats or at least democrats from conservative states who also just are highly skeptical of the idea of supporting this. and if you look at what the nra said today, it gives you an example of why. i'll read you part of the statement, anderson. they said the american people know gun bans do not work and we're confident congress will reject senator feinstein's wrong-headed approach. now, anderson, of all of the proposals she announced earlier this month, it seems that background checks, some form of them, have the best chance of passing, but even people who support gun

thanks very much, dana, for that. and kate has some new information about a story. >> a very interested day in this convoluted tale, as heisman trophy runner-up, manti te'o, is trying to explain to the world why he lied about falling in love with woman who doesn't exist. te te'o's extended interview about the scam just aired with katie couric. he was very emotional at tiles, george. >> kate, it was an interesting interview. at first, he insisted that he did not lie about it. then he backed off that a bit and admitted that he did, kind of, sort of. but throughout the interview with katie couric, he insisted that he really believed that his girlfriend was real. that is, until he realized that he had been duped. then he didn't know what to say about it. in his first televised interview since the scandal broke, notre dame star linebacker manti te'o spoke to katie couric about the online girlfriend he'd never met face to face, a woman we now know never existed. >> manti, did you have any involvement in creating this scam?

dana bash is joining us now. dana, are the republicans in the house of representatives blinking a little here? what's going on? >> a little, wolt if. they say they are going to have a vote that will delay the debt ceiling for three months. so what they are doing, if you really look at house republicans who took the majority two years ago, they did it standing on principle for pretty much every squirmish. it seems that they are becoming a bit more sophisticated, rather, but their understanding, it seems, is that you have to pick your battles. losing credit ratings and so forth, that's not a smart battle to wage. look at some of the most conservative members of the house talking to deirdre walsh at the end of their retreat for three days about picking their battles in a better way. >> deal with the smaller ones first, maybe build up a little momentum, credibility, not only with the credit markets but with the folks back home, that we can actually deal with these things, take the small one first, debt ceiling last,

dana bash is live in washington. let's talk about dianne feinstein's props first. she's going to be holding a bushmasterer? >> reporter: i'm not sure if she'll be holding it. she might. she will have more than one assault weapon and she's going to have them on display. there you see the bushmaster ar-15. that is was, of course, the kind of weapon used in the newtown shootings. but the reason she is going to do this, i'm told, is to show specifically her fellow democrat, of which there are half a dozen or more that want to do little if anything to change the assault weapon laws, that you don't need these kinds of guns in the average of ordinary people. that is likely the argument she is going to make. again, it's going to be aimed at her fellow democrats resistant to this. but she is going to have a lot of different people with her to make this argument. this is the unveiling of the premier key legislation she promised to put out at the beginning of congress right after newtown. we are expecting to have quite a show when she comes up in about an hour. >> just so peo
